"The Glider"
"The Glider" was modeled by Anderson in 1937 as a gift to the the Harris Hill Glider Association in Elmira, NY and was originally exhibited in the organizations administration building.
After a long while not knowing where "The Glider" we are so delighted to have found this sculpture. The new Soaring Museum director, Trafford Doherty, was so kind to take time to look in the storage of the facility and low and behold there it was. We are going to have the sculpture transferred to the Arnot Art Museum to commence some repairs of this plaster piece and then have a bronze cast of it. We are very hopeful that "The Glider" sculpture will find a perminent home in the Soaring Museum in the future.
Benjamin Orso Eggleston Painting
Benjamin Orso Eggleston was a mentor to Anderson in his early days here in the United States. He was steeped in the Brooklyn and New York art scene and helped to initiate Anderson into this competitive world. This painting of Anderson by Eggleston adorned the walls of his home over the years. Later, after Anderson's death, the painting was given to Elmira College where he taught art. It is now in the possession of the Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY after a failed attempt at restoration. It could not be restored because of the extreme delicate condition of the painting because of flood damage and previuosly bad restoration practices. It is awaiting a new frame and will be given back to Elmira College where it will be exhibited in a visiable but safe location.
